SEOUL, KOREA - Volkswagen's Hatchback Golf seventh generation model is likely to start being sold in Korea from July 22 at the earliest. Competition will grow in the nation's hatchback market as a string of new models are set to be released soon, including Hyundai Motor's hatchback i30, Kia Motors' hatchback K3 5-door, and Mercedes-Benz's A-Class.

Volkswagen Korea announced on June 13 that it plans to release new seventh generation Golf at a price similar to those of its previous model in mid- or late July depending on the time needed to pass the certification of the Ministry's Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation.

For the Korean market, Volkswagen plans to release two trims—BMT-applied 2.0 TDI BMT and 1.6 TDI BMT. BMT (Blue Motion Technology) enables the functions of auto start, auto stop, and energy recycling.

Given that the retail price of Volkswagen's best-selling sixth generation trim stood at 33.1 million won and those of entry-level 1.6 TDI at 31.1 million won, the prices of the upcoming models will likely to stand at around 30 million won.
