SEOUL, KOREA – South Korean telecom operator SK Telecom said Thursday that the number of subscribers to both SK Telecom’s intra-carrier free unlimited voice call plan and its inter-carrier free unlimited voice call plan broke the 3 million mark.
SK Telecom explained, “Unlike other telecom operators, SK Telecom provides its free unlimited voice call plans to 3G service subscribers and subscribers to KRW 60,000 basic monthly fee plans.
The cumulative number of subscribers to SK Telecom’s Data Refill Program, launched for its long-term users (over two years) on May 13, exceeded 500,000 in a month and the number is on track to surpass 1 million next month.
The cumulative number of SK Telecom subscribers who changed their mobile phones without switching to other telecom operator from January exceeded 1 million. In May, the share of SK Telecom subscribers who changed their mobile phones while still using SK Telecom topped 60%.
SK Telecom said. “Our efforts to retain long-term subscribers by offering various benefits have paid off.”

SK텔레콤 무제한 음성통화 요금제 가입자 300만 돌파
SK텔레콤은 망내 무제한 음성통화 요금제 `T끼리 요금제`와 망내외 무제한 요금제인 `전국민 무한 요금제`의 총 가입자 수가 300만 명을 넘어섰다고 13일 밝혔다.
SK텔레콤은 “타사와 달리 3세대(G) 가입자나 6만원대 요금제로도 무제한 요금제를 이용할 수 있어 가입이 크게 늘고 있다”고 설명했다.
장기 가입자 우대 프로그램으로 지난달 13일 내놓은 `데이터 리필하기`도 시행 한달 만에 누적 이용자 수 50만명을 돌파, 다음 달 중 100만명을 넘어설 것으로 예상됐다. 데이터 리필하기 서비스는 2년 이상 된 장기 가입자가 기본 데이터 제공량의 100%(혹은 음성 20%)를 무료로 이용할 수 있는 리필 쿠폰을 매년 4~6장 제공하는 서비스다.
SK텔레콤은 데이터 리필하기 쿠폰을 결합 상품에 가입된 가족 간 선물할 수 있는 `리필쿠폰 가족 간 선물하기` 기능을 이달 중에 제공하는 등 편의성을 높일 계획이다.
또 지난 1월부터 실시한 `착한기변` 이용가입자는 100만명을 넘어섰다. 지난해 4분기에는 동일한 단말기를 18개월 이상 이용 중인 가입자가 단말기 교체 시 기기변경 비율이 40%, 서비스 해지 비율이 60%였는데, 착한기변 시행 이후 2월부터 기기변경 가입자 비중이 더 많아졌다는 설명이다. 지난 5월에는 기기변경 비중이 60%를 넘었다.
SK텔레콤은 “보조금으로 인한 번호이동 중심 시장에서 장기 가입자 혜택 강화 등 서비스 경쟁으로 전환 노력 성과가 가시화되고 있다”고 말했다.
