Seoul, Korea - According to the industry on the 10th, Hanwha Group recently merged Q-Cell North America, an American subsidiary of recently acquired Q-Cell, and Hanwha Solar Energy, the Group's own subsidiary in America for solar business, into Hanwha Q-Cell USA.
With the business experiences from Q-Cell North America and capacity for turn-key construction of solar farms by Hanwha Solar Energy put together, Hanwha Q-Cell USA established itself as the solar energy specialist company. The company now prepared a stable business structure not only by being able to explore the power generation project opportunities, but also by supplying the solar generation products made by its group affiliates.
As a starter, Hanwha Q-Cell USA is to build a 42.5㎿ class solar farm in Ontario, Canada. The company recently made a deal with Fiera Axium, the transportation and energy infrastructure company, to co-develop the project. The project includes four solar farms to be built around Ontario, supplying enough electricity for an annual use by 5,000 households. The construction work is to start this month and is scheduled to be completed early next year. The solar modules to be used in the farms are to be manufactured by Hanwha itself in Ontario.
A Hanwha person commented, "with the technological strength and brand awareness of Q-Cell added to the existing solar business of Hanwha, we will approach the new markets, and Hanwha's approach to high-demand markets, such as the U.S., will be accelerated."

한화가 북미 태양광 시장 공략에 박차를 가한다. 신설 법인 출범으로 현지 기반을 확대하는 동시에 태양광 발전 프로젝트 발굴에 나서는 등 북미 시장 공략 강도를 높이는 모습이다.
10일 관련업계에 따르면 한화는 최근 지난해 인수한 큐셀의 미국 법인인 큐셀 노스 아메리카와 미국 태양광 법인 한화솔라에너지를 합병한 신설 법인 한화 큐셀 USA를 출범했다.
한화 큐셀 USA는 큐셀 미국 법인이 보유한 사업경험과 한화솔라에너지가 보유한 태양광 발전소 턴키 수주 능력을 보유한 태양광 전문기업으로 발돋움하게 됐다. 발전 프로젝트 발굴은 물론이고 자사 제조 태양광 제품을 공급함으로써 안정적인 사업구조를 확보했다는 평가다.
한화 큐셀 USA는 캐나다 온타리오에서 42.5㎿ 규모 태양광 발전 프로젝트를 추진한다. 수송·에너지 분야 인프라 사업자인 피에라 악시움과 사업을 공동 추진하기로 최근 합의했다. 온타리오 4개 지역에 설치될 태양광 발전소는 온타리오의 5000가구가 1년간 사용할 수 있는 전기를 생산하게 된다. 발전소는 이달 착공하며 내년 초 완공 예정이다. 사업에 사용되는 태양광 모듈은 온타리오 현지에서 한화가 직접 생산한다.
한화 관계자는 “지난해 인수한 큐셀의 기술력과 브랜드를 기존 태양광 사업에 접목해 신규 시장 공략에 나서기로 했다”며 “미국 등 수요가 활발한 태양광 시장 공략 속도가 점차 가속화될 것”이라고 말했다.
