SEOUL, KOREA - Korea’s materials and parts industry reached a record high in trade surplus in the first half of the year. It is very likely that the industry would pass the USD 90 billion mark in trade surplus this year for two consecutive years.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on July 18, the export of materials and parts for the first six months of the year went up by 5.2% standing at USD 130 billion, while the import increased by 1.5% posting USD 81.7 billion, compared with the same period of the previous year. The trade surplus reached USD 48.3 billion, up 12% from the same period, logging a half-yearly record high.
The materials and parts industry showed an export increase rate eight times higher than the one made by the other overall businesses, which was only 0.6%. And the trade surplus was also two and a half times higher than that of the rest industries combined, which stood at USD 19.6 billion for the first six months of the year.
Korea’s reliance on imports from Japan decreased to 21% from 25.2% in 2010 and 23% in 2012, posting a half-yearly record low.
Meanwhile, the rate of concentrating the export of materials and parts onto China dropped a little to 33.9% in the first half of the year from 36.3% in 2010 and 34.1% in 2012.
Taking an in-depth look at the export of the industry, electronic components (12.8%), electromechanical components (17.9%), vehicle parts (4.2%) and nonmetallic minerals led the export during the first half of the year. Primary metals (-15.4%) and textiles (-0.8%) logged, however, a negative growth rate in export.
The Ministry expects that the materials and parts industry would continue to expand its export in the second half of the year as well, meaning that the industry could pass the USD 90 billion mark in trade surplus for two years in a row.
상반기 소재부품 무역흑자 사상 최대
우리나라 소재부품 산업이 상반기 사상 최대 규모 무역흑자를 기록했다. 지난해에 이어 2년 연속 무역흑자 900억달러 돌파 가능성이 높아졌다.
18일 산업통상자원부에 따르면 상반기 소재부품 수출은 전년 동기 대비 5.2% 증가한 1300억달러, 수입은 1.5% 늘어난 817억달러로 각각 집계됐다. 무역흑자는 483억달러로 같은 기간 12% 증가했다. 반기 기준 사상 최대 규모 흑자다.
소재부품 산업은 올 상반기 0.6%에 그친 전 산업 수출 증가율을 8배 이상 웃돌며 총 수출의 47%를 차지했다. 무역흑자도 전체 196억달러의 2.5배에 달했다. 분기별로는 지난 2분기까지 9분기 연속 무역흑자 200억달러를 상회했다.
상반기 대 일본 수입 의존도는 21%로 반기별 사상 최저 수준을 기록했다. 대일 수입 의존도는 2010년 25.2%, 2012년 23% 등으로 계속 낮아지는 추세다.
반면 우리 소재부품 산업의 최대 수출 지역인 중국 집중도는 완화됐다. 대 중국 수출 집중도는 2010년 36.3%에서 2012년 34.1%, 올 상반기 33.9%로 점차 하락하는 상황이다.
업종별로는 전자부품(12.8%), 전기기계부품(17.9%), 수송기계부품(4.2%), 비금속광물(45.4%) 등이 상반기 수출을 주도했다. 1차금속(-15.4%)과 섬유(-0.8%) 등은 감소세였다.
전자부품, 수송기계부품, 정밀기기부품, 화합물·화학 등은 무역흑자를 기록했고 비금속광물은 적자였다.
산업부는 올 하반기에도 소재부품 산업 수출 호조가 이어질 것으로 기대했다. 미국의 출구 전략, 일본 아베노믹스 영향과 중국 경기 경착륙 우려가 있지만 엔저 추세 약화, 중국 시장 재고 해소, 수요 산업 호조 등에 힘입어 수출 증가폭이 확대될 것으로 예상했다. 2년 연속 소재부품 산업 무역흑자 900억달러 돌파가 가능하다는 전망이다.
산업부는 소재부품 산업 지원을 강화하기 위해 하반기 중 `제3차 소재부품 산업 발전 기본계획(2013~2017년)`을 내놓을 예정이다.
