SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics is introducing a new octa-core application processor.
According to the industry on the 21th, the System LSI Business Division of Samsung Electronics is going to launch Exynos 5 Octa this week.
Samsung Electronics has posted a Tweet on its English version of Tweeter account for Exynos, commenting “the new Exynos 5 Octa is coming next week.” The Exynos 5 Octa is the follow-up model of Exynos 5410, which the company introduced last January. Samsung Electronics applied the octa-core AP for the first time in the world to Galaxy S4, but the AP caused many problems, including excessive heat and power consumption. Samsung has fixed the problems found in Exynos 5410 and made improvements in data processing capacity. An industry insider commented, “some say that Galaxy Note III may come with Exynos 5 Octa, but considering the past practice of Samsung applying the new APs to Galaxy S series, it is unlikely.”
Samsung Electronics is to hold the Samsung Mobile Unpack event immediately before IFA 2013, the world’s largest home appliance exhibition in Berlin on September 6th and to introduce Galaxy Note III. The trade is also anticipating that the company will also introduce its smart watch, one of the ‘Samsung Gear’ accessories for its smartphones.

21일 업계에 따르면 삼성전자 시스템LSI사업부는 이번 주 엑시노스5 옥타를 발표할 계획이다.
삼성전자는 삼성 엑시노스 영문 트위터에 18일(현지시간) “새로운 엑시노스 5 옥타가 다음주 찾아온다”는 글을 올렸다.엑시노스5 옥타는 지난 1월 공개한 엑시노스 5410 후속 모델이다. 삼성전자는 갤럭시S4에 세계 처음 옥타코어 AP를 적용했지만, 발열·전력소모 등 여러 문제를 일으켰다. 엑시노스5 옥타는 엑시노스5410의 문제점을 보완하고 데이터 처리 능력 등 성능을 개선한 것으로 알려졌다.업계 관계자는 “엑시노스 5 옥타가 갤럭시노트3에 탑재될 가능성이 거론되고 있다”며 “다만 삼성전자가 갤럭시S 시리즈에 새로운 AP를 적용해왔던 것을 감안하면 그럴 가능성은 낮을 것”이라고 말했다.삼성전자는 9월6일 독일 베를린에서 열리는 세계 최대 가전 전시회 IFA2013 직전 삼성 모바일 언팩 행사를 열고 갤럭시노트 3를 공개할 예정이다. 삼성 기어로 알려진 스마트 와치를 공개할 것이란 전망도 흘러나온다.
