SEOUL, KOREA- Hyundai and Kia said on August 2 that their Santa Fe and K9 models won the cars of the year awards in the Middle East. Kia Motors' mid-sized sedan K9 was selected as the "2013 Car of the Year" by Saudi Auto Magazine, one of the best-known auto magazines in the region. This is the third occasion for the two auto makers to win the award, following the K5 in 2011 and the Avante in 2012.

With more than the circulation of 120,000 copies a year, Saudi Auto Magazine picks passenger car and recreational vehicle models every year. The K9, launched last year in the Middle Eastern market, won high points in state-of-the-art safety and convenience features.

Meanwhile, the Santa Fe of Hyundai Motor was selected as the "2012 SUV of the Year" award by Automan Magazine, Oman's automotive magazine. The Santa Fe debuted in the Middle East late last year.

A company official said, "The Middle East is one of the world's fastest-growing markets based on the fat wallet. On the back of the selection of the K9 and Santa Fe as the cars of the year, we want to expand our presence in the regional markets where high-end models such as Equus and Genesis have been launched."
