Dongbu Hitek Mass-produces PMICs for Use in LCD TVs

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013
SEOUL, KOREA- Dongbu Hitek announced on August 5 that it mass-produced and supplied PMICs (Power Management ICs) for use with LCD TVs to system semiconductor specialist Silicon Works. Dongbu Hitek has produced PMICs for use with mobile phones, LCD monitors, and laptop computers. This was the first time for the company to produce PMICs for use with LCD TVs.

PMIC plays a key role in distributing and managing power for electronics items whose functions are getting more diversified and complex. It is a good example of green semiconductors that reduce power consumption and enhance battery usage hours.

The PMIC that Dongbu Hitek supplied to Silicon Works helps minimize power consumption by shifting the voltage that is supplied for LCD TV panels into rated voltage. The PMICs are provided in a system-on-chip (SoC) manner, which reduces the size and number of chips, thereby contributing to saving manufacturing cost and time.

According to market research firm Gartner, the PMIC market size is expected to grow by 7 percent per year, rising to $40.6 billion in 2017 from $31.1 billion this year.
