Import Car Sales Renew Record High Again

SEOUL, KOREA- The sales of import cars in Korea renewed its record-high level again in July 2013. According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association, the number of import cars newly registered last month totaled 14,953, the highest monthly record. This is the first time for the monthly sales of import cars to pass the 14,000 mark.

The July figure is up 38.9 percent from a year ago and up 16.9 percent compared to a month ago. The July number is 1,500 units higher than the previous record set in May 2013 when the sales of import cars reached 13,411 units.

By brand, BMW came on top with 3,023 units, followed by Volkswagen with 2,969, and Mercedes-Benz with 2,567. Following them were Audi (1,776), Toyota (737), Ford (688), MINI (633), Honda (502), Lexus (495), and Chrysler (357).

By model, the BMW 520d was the best-selling model with sales of 848 units, followed by the Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI (688), and the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI Blue Motion (543).
