SEOUL, KOREA- The "future technology fostering project," the 1.5-trillion-won program led by Samsung Group intended to support the government's "creative economy" initiative, will soon set sail. The group said on August 13 that its technology fostering foundation has been officially approved by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning.

The group will soon kick off programs in three areas, basic sciences, materials technology, and ICT fusion projects, with a total budget of 1.5 trillion won in ten years. Unlike the original blueprint announced in May, however, the group will split the foundation budget into two parts as there are possibilities of technology being handed over to rival companies.

Of the 1.5-trillion-won budget, accordingly, 500 billion won will be given to the technology fostering foundation as planned to support research projects in basic sciences. The remaining 1 trillion won will be spent on materials and ICT fusion technologies in a future technology fostering center to be established by Samsung Electronics.
