SEOUL, KOREA- The labor union of Hyundai Motor went on a partial strike after failing to reach an agreement with the management in the wage negotiation on August 20.From 1:30 am of August 20, the 15,000 unionized workers at the Ulsan factory and the “first-shift” workers at the Jeonju-Asan factory cut the tape first by launching a two-hour strike.

The second shift workers who start working from 3:30 pm will also launch a two-hour strike from 5:30 pm. The union also decided to deny overtime work and weekend work until the wage negotiation is ended.

The partial strike and the denial of overtime work would cause a delay in the production of 2,106 cars, costing 43.5 billion won for Hyundai Motor. The union plans to continue its partial strike on August 21 and will resume the wage negotiation with the management again on the 22nd.
