Labor Strike Causes Delay in Car Production at Hyundai and Kia

SEOUL, KOREA- The labor unions of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors staged two-day partial strikes, causing a delay in production of 5,500 units of cars. The strikes led to a loss of 108 billion won for the companies.According to Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors on August 21, the labor union of Hyundai Motor continued to stage partial strikes with the first- and second-shift workers at Ulsan, Jeonju, and Asan plants stopping work for two hours each.

For Hyundai Motor, the two-day work stoppage caused a delay in the production of 4,185 cars, costing a loss of 85.6 billion won.

The labor union of Kia Motors also launched a partial strike at the factories in Gwangmyeong Sohari, Hwaseong, and Guangju, in the same manner as the one seen at Hyundai assembly plants.

For Kia Motors, this strike cost a delay in the production of 1,262 cars and a loss of 22.4 billion won. The labor union and the management of Hyundai Motor are set to resume wage negotiations on August 22.
