SEOUL, KOREA - System semiconductor maker Dongbu HiTek is seeking this year to turn to the black for the first time in 16 years after founding in 1997. The company said on August 26 that its second-quarter sales revenue and operating profit were 132.5 billion won and 12.3 billion won, respectively, on a non-consolidated basis. This is the largest-ever quarterly profit for the company.

For the first half, it made a profit of 5.1 billion won. The operating profit on a consolidated basis including the financial performance of its U.S. corporation was 4.8 billion won.

The biggest factor for the company's good performance was the Chinese smartphone makers who placed much larger orders this year for system chips needed for their smartphones. Thanks to this, the share of smartphone-related revenue in total was 15 percent in the first half from 8 percent last year.

The orders were mostly for analog semiconductor chips. Although Korean chip makers such as Samsung Electronics and Hynix are top producers of memory chips, they have little presence when it comes to analog chips.
