According to industry sources, including the Korea Customs Service, on August 26, the nation’s beer imports amounted to US$39.51 million in the first half of this year, up $6.92 million from a year ago.
Of the total, Japanese beers accounted for 33.5 percent, followed by those of the Netherlands, Germany, China, and Ireland.
As the supply and sales of import beers are growing day after day, the nation’s restaurant and hotel industries are releasing a variety of promotions using import beers.
Todai, for example, a seafood restaurant chain, is staging a beer festival where it offers Dutch beer Heineken and Japanese beer Sapporo Beer at discounted prices. It also offers one bottle of import beer for free in case two bottles of import beers are ordered.
