SEOUL, KOREA - Halla Engineering & Construction said on August 27 it won a US$60-million project to build a new government complex for the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. Intended to keep the population from concentrating in the center of the city, the new government complex project will proceed in four construction blocks including the city legislature, office complexes, conference spaces, and government agency buildings in a 90,000-square-meter site.

Separately the construction contractor will complete a Lot 1 project (construction of 90-kilometer road section) as part of building a 176.4-km road connecting between Choir and Sainshand by next month.

A Halla E&C official said, "We are winning a series of large-scale infrastructure projects in Mongolia as the government there recognizes our technical excellence. Including the 138-billion-won project we won in Azerbaijan earlier this year to build a 20-story building for Azersu, the nation's state-run water operator, we have so far booked about 900 billion won in overseas construction orders."
