SEOUL, KOREA- Avalon, a sedan that Toyota will release in Korea in October, is enjoying popularity in the United States. This is the first time for Toyota to release the Avalon in Korea.
According to Toyota Korea on August 28, the U.S. sales of Avalon reached 37,471 units in the first half of this year, up 125 percent from 16,651 a year ago. The Avalon is Toyota’s flagship sedan targeting the North American market. Since the fourth-generation model was released in late 2012, it has been selling about 6,000 units per month.
In the U.S. market, Avalon is competing head-on with Hyundai Motor’s Grandeur, Kia Motors’ K7, and Ford Taurus.
Given that the U.S. sales of the Grandeur stood at 5,792 in the first half of this year, the Avalon was sold more than six times there. Toyota Korea plans to sell Avalon to Grandeur clients in Korea.
