Import Car Sales Break 100,000 Unit Mark in Domestic Sales in 8 Months

SEOUL, KOREA- The number of import cars newly registered during the January-August period of this year broke the level of 100,000 units. The August sales of import cars were the second highest, behind the record-high results achieved in July.
According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association, the sales of import cars during the month of August totaled 13,977 units, down 6.5 percent from the record-high figure set in July, but up 32.2 percent from a year ago.

For the January-August period of this year, import car sales grew by 23.7 percent to 103,417 units. By brand, BMW came on top with 3,405 units, followed by Volkswagen (2,493), Mercedes-Benz (1,929), Audi (1,857), Ford (596), Mini Cooper (552), Toyota (549), Lexus (416), Honda (370), and Chrysler (348).

By engine displacement, the sales of less than 2.0-liter models stood at 8,311 units, or 59.5 percent of the total.
