According to the company, its sales revenue (currently estimated at $250 million) would soon break the $600-million level as it had completed the construction of a third apparel plant and the acquisition of a local dye works in Vietnam last year. The total number of employees in Hansae Vietnam is 18,500, of which 18,300 are local hires.
In addition to contributing to the local economy through job creation, the company has been active in SCR initiatives, including granting of scholarship money to seven high schools nearby, donation of 20,000 books to the Vietnamese national libraries and university libraries, and support for children with heart disease.
Kim Cheol-ho, president of Hansae Vietnam, said, "Our success stems from the intense effort to localize our operations, including hiring of locals and contribution to the Vietnamese economy through exports."
Cho Won-dong, senior Presidential secretary for economic affairs, said, "The reason the President visited Hansae Vietnam was to highlight the role the company plays in the local economy so that the Vietnamese government could actively encourage more Korean companies to invest in Vietnam as a way to reverse the trade balance deficit by exporting to third-country markets."
