SEOUL, KOREA- LG Electronics is set to display Ultra HD set-top box at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2013 that is scheduled to be held in Amsterdam in the Netherlands from September 13 to 17.The Ultra HD set-top box uses a next-generation high-efficiency HEVC decoder, thereby improving the compression rate by two-folds compared to existing models. HEVC, accordingly, is regarded as having a high potential for being used as an Ultra HD content transmission standard.
With this set-top box, LG Electronics plans to create an ultra HD ecosystem, as well as to increase the sales of its Ultra HD TVs. LG Electronics also plans to showcase a set-top box using an Android platform. This model allows users to download Google Play’s apps and contents with a Google account.
IBC is an international broadcasting equipment and technology exhibition where as many as 1,400 companies from 160 countries participate.
