Canadian Gov't Begins Anti-dumping Investigation on Korean Steel Products

Tuesday, September 17th, 2013
SEOUL, KOREA- The Canadian government has set out an anti-dumping investigation on certain hot-rolled carbon steel plate products.According to "Global Window," the information portal run by the state-run Korea Trade Promotion Corp. (KOTRA) on September 16, Canada's Essar Steel Algoma Inc. had filed a complaint alleging that steel makers from seven countries including Brazil, Chinese Taipei, Denmark, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, and Korea are selling their goods at below-cost prices causing material harm to Canadian production including theirs.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Canada Border Services Agency announced on the 5th that it would begin an investigation on the seven steel exporters. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal will make a preliminary anti-dumping determination within 90 days by December 4 after which it will make final decisions on individual steel makers within 90 days after the date of the preliminary determination.

KOTRA said that it is worried the Canadian government may this time impose anti-dumping charges on hot-rolled carbon steel plate after it did so on carbon steel welded pipes and steel tubes for structural purposes.
