SEOUL, KOREA- The Kaesong Industrial Complex, reopened on September 16 after more than five months of closure amid rising tensions between the two Koreas, will keep their factories open on Chuseok holidays. On September 18, several companies with operations there said they would keep their production lines running the whole week including the Saturday and Sunday, except the Chuseok day on the 18th to make up for the losses from 166 days of closure.

For the two days since reopening, the average capacity utilization ratio was about 55-60 percent, but it is expected to rise further immediately after the holidays. All North Korean employees will come to work on the 19th and continue working on the weekend.

Currently there are 400 South Korean managers and office workers staying in Kaesong, including the 130 who entered the complex this morning. The Kaesong Industrial Complex management office prepared joint commemorative ancestral rites for those remaining there.
