Daewoo E&C Wins $693 Mil. Project in Southearn Iraq

SEOUL, KOREA - Daewoo Engineering & Construction said on November 26 it won a US$693.3-million order to build a breakwater in southern Iraq. The deal came three months after the Korean construction contractor landed a $709-million order to build a natural gas processing plant in Iraq's Akkas gas field.
 
Commissioned by the state-run General Company for Ports of Iraq, the project calls for building a 15.85-kilometer breakwater as part of constructing Al Faw Grand Port in Basra. The length of the construction is 30 months after breaking ground.
 
Al Faw Grand Port is an ambitious project for the Iraqi government, which has plans to make it one of the world's 12 largest ports by connecting it with railroads toward neighboring nations such as Turkey. The government will will build container terminals, dry bulk terminals, port hinterlands, and a naval base in the premises in the future.
