SEOUL, KOREA - On December 11 Samsung Electronics announced its company-wide reorganization including the establishment of a big data center and the expansion of B2B business. As for its camera business, the company will focus more on Galaxy cameras rather than regular digital ones.
This is the first instance of big data center established by large corporations. As big data has become a watchword lately, Samsung Electronics decided to take advantage of this as a source of new business opportunities. Yoon Jin-soo, former executive at the media solution center, was appointed as head of the newly created big data center.
In addition, the company's digital imaging unit that has been responsible for digital cameras was merged with the wireless business unit, which signifies that Samsung will focus its effort on developing camera modules used for Galaxy cameras and smartphones while divesting away from the digital camera business.
