SEOUL, KOREA – Products manufactured by Moneual (a Korean home appliance maker) and Samsung SNS (a Korean provider of network solutions) have won highly acclaimed global design awards.
Moneual said its robotic cleaner “Cling Cling” was picked as one of the winners of the 2013 Red Dot Design Award. The German Red Dot Design Award is one the world's top three design honors along with the iF (International Forum) Product Design Awards and the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in North America.
Moneual expected that exports of its robotic cleaner “Cling Cling” would gain traction following the winning of a red dot design award.
Samsung SNS said it climbed up 5 notches to the 50th place in the iF (International Forum) industrial design rankings.
Only five Korean companies, including Samsung Electronics (1st), LG Electronics (4th), Coway (41th) and NHN (77th), have joined the top 100 iF global design list. Samsung SNS won the gold award at the 2012 iF packaging design awards.

모뉴엘•삼성SNS, 해외 디자인상에서 경쟁력 인정 받아
삼성SNS, 모뉴엘 등 국내 중견기업이 세계적 권위를 자랑하는 디자인상에 이름을 올리며 제품 경쟁력을 인정받았다.
모뉴엘(대표 박홍석)은 `2013 레드닷 디자인 어워드`에서 자사 로봇청소기 `클링클링`이 제품 디자인 부문 특별상을 수상했다고 밝혔다. 50년 전통의 독일 레드닷 디자인상은 독일의 iF, IDEA와 함께 세계 3대 디자인상으로 불린다.
레드닷 디자인 특별상은 받은 모뉴엘 로봇청소기 클링클링은 △제품의 혁신성 △기능 및 유용성 △내구성 △친환경성 등에서 높은 평가를 받았다. 모뉴엘 측은 제품 경쟁력에 이어 디자인 경쟁력까지 인정받은 만큼 해외 수출에 한층 가속도가 붙을 것으로 기대했다.
네트워크 서비스 솔루션 전문기업 삼성SNS(대표 최창수)도 자사의 iF 디자인 글로벌 순위가 작년보다 5단계 뛰어오른 50위를 기록했다고 전했다.
국내기업으로 단 5개 기업만이 100위 안에 들었다. 삼성전자와 LG전자가 각각 1위와 4위를 기록했고, 코웨이와 NHN이 각각 41와 77위를 차지했다. 매출 1조원 미만의 국내 중견기업이 50위에 오른 것은 삼성SNS가 유일하다.
iF 디자인상은 최근 3년 동안 기업들의 iF 디자인 수상 실적을 점수로 환산해 디자인 세계 순위를 매년 3월에 발표한다. 삼성SNS는 지난해 제품 포장 부문에서 iF 금상을 수상한 바 있다.
삼성SNS 관계자는 “이는 삼성SNS의 디자인 경쟁력이 세계 수준에 도달했다는 것을 보여준다”며 “이 같은 제품 경쟁력을 바탕으로 해외 수출에 더욱 박차를 가하겠다”고 말했다.
