The Grand i10 achieved a contract volume of 35,000 units in just three months after being released in September there. In this year's ICOTY competition, it beat its rivals such as Ford's EcoSport and Honda's Amaze.
The ICOTY is selected by 16 journalists belonging to India's nine automotive journals, based on evaluations on sales performance, price, performance, technological innovation, design, and fuel efficiency.
As the most prestigious automobile-related award in India, the ICOTY impacts heavily on Indian consumers' decisions on the purchasing of new cars. An official at Hyundai Motor's Indian business unit said, "This award proved that our efforts to improve quality and promote localization are recognized highly by local media and consumers alike."
