SEOUL, KOREA - E-Mart Mall announced on December 23 that the three online shopping keywords for the year 2013 are “mobile,” “fresh,” and “single,” based on its analysis of online mall shopping trends.Mobile sales amounted to 47 billion won in the January-November period of this year, a more than nine-fold increase compared to last year’s total of 5.7 billion won.

Key factors behind the hike in mobile sales include the increase in the number of single or two-person households who purchase fresh foods through mobile devices when they commute.

The share of mobile sales in E-Mart’s total sales, which remained at a mere 1.5 percent last year, continued to rise, reaching 5.3 percent in January, 12.7 percent in November and 13.5 percent in December.

Another notable trend is an increase in sales of fresh foods which overtook processed foods, achieving the largest share in overall sales. Fresh foods accounted for 32.3 percent share in total sales, followed by processed foods with 31.5 percent and daily necessities with 20 percent.
