SEOUL, KOREA - SK Group, once regarded as having a domestic demand-centered business structure,passed the $60-billion mark in exports for two consecutive years, transforming itself into an export-driven business group.
The group announced on December 25 that it will likely to achieve exports of $61.4 billion or 65 trillion won this year in its manufacturing sectors that cover the businesses of SK Innovation, SKCorp., SK Chemical, SK Engineering &Construction,and SK Hynix.
Following last year's exports of $63.4 billion, the group expects to break the $60-billion level for two straight years. The share of exports in total sales of the group's affiliated companies is estimated at 71.7 percent.
SK Group's overall exports account for 10.9 percent of the nation's total exports that are estimated at $558.6 billion. The group's exports amounted to $12 billion in 2005 with its share in Korea's total exports estimated at 4.3 percent. The group's exports marked a five-fold growth in terms of value and a 2.5-fold growth in terms of market share in just eight years.
