SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics is forecast to sell about 400 million smartphones this year.The U.S.market research firm Strategy Analytics announced on January 7 that Samsung Electronics is likely to sell 398.3 million smartphones this year.
The company is expected to command a share of 34.6 percent in the global smartphone market this year. In other words, one out of three people who will purchase smartphones over the next one year will opt for the devices made by Samsung Electronics.
There has been no company which achieved annual smartphone sales of 400 million units. In addition, if Samsung succeeds in grabbing more than one third of the market share, it will become the first company since 2011 when Nokia stepped down from the crown.
Samsung Electronics’ smartphone sales have been on an upward trend since 2007, with its market share continuously rising since 2009.
