40% of SMEs Say "No Hiring This Year"

SEOUL, KOREA - JobKorea, a job portal, said on January 13 based on a survey on 162 small firms with 300 employees or fewer for their 2014 hiring plans, as many as 40.1 percent of respondents said there is no hiring plan for the year.
 
The percentage of firms who said there will be plans for hiring was 45.1 percent while 14.8 percent said undecided. Of the 45.1 percent of firms with employment plans, 65.8 percent said they would pick both newly minted college graduates and experienced employees.
 
By area of expertise for new employees, sales (33.8%), services (23.1%), marketing (20.0%), and advertising and promotion (18.5%) took the most of the positions to fill. As for experienced workers, sales and sales management took the highest portion with 35.7 percent, followed by finance and accounting (17.9%), advertising and promotion (17.9%), marketing (16.1%), and production and field work (16.1%).
