SEOUL, KOREA - IBM acquired more than 6,000 patents in the United States last year, winning the most U.S. patents for 21 consecutive years.According to U.S. patent research firm IFI Claim Patent Service, IBM acquired 6,809 patents in the U.S. last year, ranking No. 1.
This is larger than the combined figure of Amazon, Google, Hewlett-Packard, and Symantec. Even in 2012, IBM registered 6,478 patents, racking up more U.S.patents than any other company for 20 straight years.
IBM has about 8,000 researchers in 47 American states and in 41 countries world wide.Following IBM was Samsung Electronics which registered 4,676 patents there (5,081 patents in 2012).Canon and Sony ranked No. 3 and 4, respectively,with 3,825 and 3,098 patents.
