SEOUL, KOREA – US telecom operator T-Mobile said Tuesday (local time) that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will hit T-Mo on May 1st.
With T-Mobile’s announcement of the launch date in the US, attention has been paid to when the Samsung Galaxy S4 will go on sale in Korea. Korean telecom operators are making preparations in a bid to release the Galaxy S4 sometime in April, but they said they have yet to set a specific launch date.
An official from a telecom operator said, “Network interworking tests of the Galaxy S4 have been conducted, but schedules for launch events and presale orders haven’t been finalized. It is also possible that the Galaxy S4 will go on sale in early May or even later than the US launch date."
The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes in three versions: the LTE-enabled Galaxy S4 model, powered by a 1.6GHz Exynos octa-core processor will be released in Korea while the 3G variant of the Galaxy S4 will go on sale in non-LTE regions like the EU. In the US and some other nations, the LTE-enabled Galaxy S4 will be powered by the Snapdragon 600 Quad-core processor.

갤럭시S4, 미국 보다 한국 먼저 출시?
삼성전자 `갤럭시S4`가 5월 1일 미국 시장에 출시된다.
미 이동통신사 T모바일은 26일(현지시각) 행사를 열고 갤럭시S4를 5월 1일 출시한다고 밝혔다.
미국 출시일이 알려지며 국내 출시 일에도 관심이 집중된다. 27일 통신업계는 4월 중 출시를 목표로 준비를 하고 있지만 아직 삼성전자와 구체적인 날짜를 협의하지 못했다는 입장이다.
이동통신사 한 관계자는 “갤럭시S4 망연동 시험 등을 진행하고 있지만 출시 행사나 사전 예약 등의 일정은 확정하지 못했다”고 말했다. 다음 달 말까지 한 달 정도 기간이 남은 것을 감안하면 미국과 같이 5월 초나 더 늦어질 가능성도 배제할 수 없다.
삼성전자는 갤럭시S4를 세 가지 버전으로 내놓는다.
국내 출시될 갤럭시S4는 옥타코어 `엑시노스` AP에 LTE를 지원하며 유럽 등 LTE 서비스가 활성화되지 않는 곳은 옥타코어에 3G를 지원하는 제품이 나온다. 미국 등 일부 국가는 쿼드코어 퀄컴 `스냅드래곤 600`에 LTE 서비스용 제품이 출시될 예정이다.
노근창 HMC투자증권 연구원은 “삼성전자가 4월 중순 이후 순차적으로 갤럭시S4를 출시할 것으로 예상된다”며 “주요 통신사업자 초기 주문 물량은 1100만대를 상회하는 것으로 추정된다”고 말했다.
