SKTelecom Develops 3-Band LTE-A Technology

SEOUL, KOREA - SKTelecom announced on January 20 that it succeeded in developing the 3-band LTE-A technology that has a maximum speed of 300Mbps.

The newly-developed technology is a “20+10+10MHz” 3-band LTE-A technology that connects three-band frequencies, including one broadband (20 MHz) frequency and two 10-MHz frequencies.

SKTelecom plans to show off a 3-band LTE-A with a maximum speed of 450Mbps by using three broadband frequencies at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 that is scheduled to be held in Barcelona in Spain in February 2014.

SKTelecom commercialized LTE-A with a maximum speed of 150Mbps, first in the world, by binding two 10-MHz frequencies, in June 2013.

In November 2013, SK Telecom also showcased an LTE-A technology with a maximum downloading speed of 225Mbps by binding 10MHz + 20MHz frequencies, first in Korea If using SK Telecom’s 3-Band LTE-A that is four times faster than LTE, one can download an 800-Mb movie within 22 seconds.
