SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics, which has the world’s largest mobile phone plant in the northern part of Vietnam, plans to kick-start the operation of another same-scale production facility there within early next month.

Samsung Electronics Vietnam, a Vietnamese unit of the Korean company, plans to complete and start the operation of its second mobile phone factory in the Yen Binh Industrial Complex in Thai Nguyen province in early March.

To this end, SEV plans to relocate about 4,000 out of the 40,000 workers at its No. 1 plant into the new one.

The soon-to-be-established Thai Nguyen plant will churn out about 1 million units of mobile phones during its first month and, thereafter, will increase its monthly output on a gradual basis towards 8 million units within the fourth quarter.

The second plant will have an annual production capacity of 120 million units, bringing Samsung’s annual mobile phone production in Vietnam up to 240 million units.
