SEOUL, KOREA - Yuhan Corp. regained the top spot in sales terms among Korea’s pharmaceutical companies, first in 46 years. The company achieved sales of 943.6 billion won last year, overtaking Dong-A Socio Holdings which ranked No. 1 in 2012. Dong-A’s 2013 sales amounted to 926.4 billion won.
Yuhan Corp. regained the No. 1 position in sales terms in 46 years after it lost the leading spot to Dong-A in 1967. Despite the stagnation in the Korean pharmaceutical market, Yuhan Corp. posted a robust year-to-year growth rate of 24 percent in sales and 78 percent in operating profits last year, dwarfing those of its rivals.
Yuhan Corp. said that it eradicated inadequate rebate-based sales activities earlier than others, which led to a sound and healthy growth in sales. Following Yuhan Corp. and Dong-A were Green Cross Corp. with 888.1 billion won, Hanmi Pharm with 730.1 billion won, and Daewoong Co. with 674.8 billion won.
