SEOUL, KOREA – The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) said Thursday German auto parts maker Schaeffler plans to invest USD 34 million in Korea.
In collaboration with local chambers of commerce, the MOTIE held parts and materials investment road shows in Munich and Hamburg, Germany on March 26 and 28. The road shows were aimed to lure Germany’s parts and materials companies, which have basked in attention amid the EU fiscal crisis, in to Korea.
During the road shows, Schaeffler notified the MOTIE of its plan to invest USD 34 million in Korea. Last February, the head of Schaeffler’s headquarters paid a visit to Gyeonggi-do to sign a USD 100 million investment MoU with Gyeonggi-do.
Including the Munich Chamber of Commerce and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, nearly 100 German companies attended the road show, where the MOTIE introduced Korea’s investment environment and investment opportunities newly created by the Korean government’s “creative economy” policy.
The MOTIE said the attendees had shown an interest in Germany’s Bosch and Deutsche Bank’s successful investments in Korea.

산업부, 독일 부품소재 투자유치 로드쇼 개최
산업통상자원부는 독일 자동차부품기업 셰플러가 3400만달러 규모 한국 투자 계획을 신고했다고 28일 밝혔다.
산업부는 26, 28일(현지시각) 양일간 독일 함부르크와 뮌헨에서 현지 상공회의소와 공동으로 부품소재 투자유치 로드쇼를 개최했다. 최근 유럽 경제 위기 속에 주목받고 있는 독일 부품소재 분야 강소기업을 한국에 유치하기 위한 행사다.
셰플러는 로드쇼 기간 중 3400만달러 투자 계획을 신고했다. 셰플러는 지난해 2월 본사 사장이 방한해 경기도와 1억달러 규모 투자유치 양해각서(MOU)를 교환한 바 있다.
산업부는 현지 로드쇼에서 동북아 경제 허브로 성장한 한국의 투자 환경과 새 정부 창조경제 정책에 따른 투자 기회를 소개했다. 행사에는 함부르크•뮌헨 상공회의소를 비롯해 독일 기업 100여개사가 참석했다.
독일 측 참석자들은 독일 보쉬와 도이치방크의 한국 투자 성공사례에 관심을 보였다고 산업부는 전했다.
산업부는 한국 투자에 관한 독일 강소기업의 관심을 실질적인 투자로 이어가기 위해 다각도로 유치활동을 전개할 계획이다.
