Seoul, Korea - Autech Carrier (formerly Carrier Korea) will move into the Brazilian air-conditioner market for train cars. The Korean company said on March 3 that it held a signing ceremony in Sao Paulo to establish a joint venture with Unicoba, a mid-sized local company.

Unicoba is a partner firm of IESA Projetos, Equipamentos e Montagens S.A., Brazil's major rolling stock manufacturer. Jointly with Unicoba, Autech Carrier will supply a total of 836 industrial-strength air-conditioners to 352 train cars to be supplied by IESA to CPTM (Sao Paulo Metropolitan Train Company). An Autech Carrier official said, "The deal was made possible by IESA and Hyundai Rotem that recognized our technical excellence in air-conditioner manufacturing."

This is the first overseas order from railroad companies for Autech Carrier. It will keep pursuing business opportunities in the railway sector in Brazil and other Latin American countries.

Kang Sung-hee, chairman of Autech Carrier, took over the stake of Carrier Korea in 2011 and turned the special vehicle maker effectively into an air-conditioner company. Mr. Kang said, "With the latest deal as a momentum, we will accelerate our effort to expand into the Latin American HVAC market for railroad rolling stock. Following air-conditioners, we will step up our effort to export special vehicles and refrigerated vehicles as well."
