SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung Electronics said Sunday its drum washing machine’s motor has been certified by “VDE (Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker)” - German Association of Electrical Engineers- as a product with a life expectancy of 20 years.
The VDE has officially certified that Samsung’s drum washing machine is capable of a total of 4,400 loads of laundry for 20 years (based on 4.2 loads a week and 220 loads a year).
The VDE is one of Europe’s largest technical, scientific associations that test the safety and credibility of varied electric, electronics products and consumer goods.
The VDE has tested Samsung’s drum washing machine for one year and four months under the same condition as any other household.
Samsung Electronics expected that its winning of the VDE certification would help EU consumers have faith in Samsung products’ performance and durability and raise Samsung Electronics’ standing as a home appliance maker in the EU market.

삼성전자, 드럼세탁기 모터 20년 수명 인증 받았다
삼성전자는 자사 드럼세탁기의 핵심 부품인 모터가 독일전기전자기술자협회(VDE)로부터 20년 수명 인증을 받았다고 31일 밝혔다.
VDE는 삼성전자 드럼세탁기 모터가 주 4.2회, 연 220회 기준으로 20년간 총 4400회 세탁해도 문제없다며 공식 신뢰성 기간 20년을 인증했다. VDE는 전기기기의 기능, 성능시험, 규격적합성 등을 담당하는 독일 최고의 전기•전자 인증 전문 기관으로 엄격한 검증과정으로 유명하다.
VDE 독일 본사에서 1년 4개월간 진행된 실험은 세탁물에 물을 넣어 세탁하고 탈수시켜 진동을 가하는 등 실제 소비자들이 사용하는 것과 같은 조건으로 진행됐다.
삼성전자는 이 인증으로 유럽 시장에서 제품 성능과 내구성의 공신력을 높이고, 가전업체로의 입지도 더욱 강화될 것으로 기대했다.
