SEOUL, KOREA - SKC Lighting, an LED-making subsidiary of Korea's tech materials company SKC Co., will supply LED devices to a U.S. solar power generation company. SKC said on March 11 that its subsidiary signed an agreement with SunEdison of the United States to supply lighting devices, the first of its kind among Korean companies.
SunEdison installs and runs solar panels on the roof of large business establishments such as retail outlets and department stores. Recently the company began offering services installing energy-saving LED lightings inside the building, which prompted it to make the contract. With the latest deal, SKC Lighting will be able to exclusively supply LED devices to buildings in which SunEdison installs photovoltaic modules for the next 18 months.
An SKC Lighting official said, "With this deal as the momentum, we will expand the range of partnership with SunEdison, for example, moving into markets of Asia and the Middle East together."
Since last year, SKC Lighting has specialized in marketing of LED lighting products, focusing on design and system development rather than manufacturing. The company's products are thus the outcome of joint efforts with Licon of the United States and Peak Technology of China. The lighting devices to be supplied to SunEdison are also manufactured by China's Peak Technology under the SKC Lighting brand.
