Wearable OS War Begins between Samsung and Google

SEOUL, KOREA - The world’s largest Internet service company Google revealed the “Android Wear” operating system on March 18. LG Electronics’ G Watch, the first smartwatch to be applied with the Android Wear OS, will be released within the second quarter of this year.

 

G Watch will compete with Samsung Electronics’ Gear 2 that was revealed last month. Gear 2 is applied with Tizen OS, developed jointly by Samsung Electronics and Intel.

Once being an alliance in the smartphone business where Samsung was in charge of devices (Galaxy series) and Google of OS, Samsung Electronics and Google are expected to have a competitive relationship in the wearable market.

The Android Wear is an operating system applied for wearable smart devices. The Android Wear will be mounted first on smartwatches. The Android Wear is primed with the “OK Google” voice recognition function and the “Google Now” function that automatically provides users with information on time and position.
