On April 7, the company showed off the next-generation standard ATSC 3.0 transmission technology, together with GatesAir, the largest television equipment company in North America, at the international broadcasting equipment exhibition NAB 2014.
The ATSC 3.0 is a technology that can transmit high-resolution images like Ultra HD by using the next-generation image compression technology HEVC (High Efficiency Video Code) and maximizing the efficiency of broadcasting frequencies. Compared to existing standards, HEVC boasts two times higher compression efficiency.
LG Electronics transmitted UHD TV broadcasting content and high-resolution mobile broadcasting signals simultaneously, through a single terrestrial channel (6 MHz). The transmitted mobile broadcasting enables users to enjoy watching TV programming even when they move at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
