Family
By Cho Sung-gap
We think about the nation
And the love oozing out when we eat together.
We always share the same goals
And overcome obstacles.
And we refuse to let go of karmic relationships
From hell to heaven.
The roots of pine trees stretch out,
Aging resin on them.
Pine tree needles look much greener
Against the snow covered Han River.
Pine trees andaged pine resin that can even live to the age of 1,000,
Have buttressed the south gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace
For as long as 5,000 years.
Though our family slakes their hunger
With dew drops fallen on the palms of their hand under the Milky Way,
We are who we are. Our family, me, you and friends together,
Let’s welcome the arrival of spring, summer, autumn and winter
With open arms
And fly looking farther afield!
