SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor announced on April 17 that it aimed to sell 40 hydrogen cars within this year in Korea, starting from the sales of 15 units to the Gwangju Metropolitan City government, scheduled in June.
Hyundai Motor revealed this target at the “hydrogen fuel cell vehicle media presentation” held on the day at its Mabuk Campus in Yongin in the southern outskirts of Seoul.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle refers to a car that uses hydrogen fuel cell instead of gasoline as a fuel source. Hydrogen fuel cell creates electricity by using hydrogen mixed with oxygen in the air.Hydrogen fuel cell car is gaining attention as an eco-friendly future car since it is free from any carbon dioxide emissions.
Hyundai Motor applied the hydrogen fuel cell car system into its SUV model Tucson. The Tucson hydrogen model is mounted with a 100-kW fuel cell, a 100-kW drive motor, a 24-kW high voltage battery and a 700-bar hydrogen storage tank. It can start under freezing cold conditions such as the temperature 20 degrees below zero Celsius.The company claimed that the localization rate for the technologies is about 95 percent.
