SEOUL, KOREA - Lotte Department Store announced on May 8 that its sales to Chinese tourists more than doubled during the recent golden holidays, which include the Labor Day in China. The Chinese tourists have expanded the scope of shopping from international premium items towards street brands and sporting goods.
According to Lotte Department Store, the daily average sales generated by China UnionPay cards during the period from April 25 to May 6 marked a 123.1-percent growth compared to a year ago.
For the golden holidays, the best-selling brand for Youke (Chinese tourists) was MCM, followed by Cartier, Chanel, Vacheron Constantin, and Tiffany. The young casual and cosmetics brand “Stylenanda” which opened a shop at Young Plaza ranked No. 6 in terms of sales, sustaining its outstanding performance.
A Lotte Department Store official said, “The number of the Chinese who participated in our promotional event held during the holidays targeting high-end shoppers marked more than a ten-time growth, indicating that high-end purchases by Chinese tourists are increasing.”
