SEOUL, KOREA - Lotte Department Store will open a fifth location in China at Shenyang, Liaoning Province, on May 31. The Shenyang store is part of the wider Lotte World Shenyang project that will include a theme park and other entertainment complexes. Right now, the department store will be open along with Young Plaza, a shopping space for young casual wear and accessories.
Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning Province, is the largest city in Northeast China that encompasses three northeastern provinces including Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning, with the population of 8.2 million. The city's per-capita income of US$14,180 (as of 2013) is higher than any other cities in the northeast.
Under the 3-trillion-won plan of Lotte World Shenyang, the company will build, in addition to the department store and Young Plaza, and multiplex theaters, a discount outlet by 2015 and a large shopping mall and theme park by 2016. The whole project will be completed in 2017 when a hotel, office building, and residential complex are built. The total area would be 1.16 million square meters.
The Shenyang store will be bigger than any other Chinese locations in Tianjin, Weihai, and Chengdu. The total floor area of the store is 122,000 square meters in eight floors from basement to 7th floor. The number of brands to set up shop within the department store is 420. Within Young Plaza, popular brands like Uniqlo, QDA, Teenie Weenie, and Basic House will open stores. On 4th to 7th floor of the department store, a multiplex cinema with 16 theaters will be located.
