SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor announced on June 3 that it has completed the construction of its Sichuan plant and launched a full-scale operation. The new assembly plant in Ziyang, Sichuan Province, is the company’s first overseas commercial vehicle factory.

It is a state-of-the-art truck factory with an annual production capacity of 150,000 units. The facility is fully furnished with press, frame, painting and design lines, plus its own engine shop.

Hyundai Motor will produce its strategic heavy-duty truck “Trago Xcient” at the new plant. To cope with the fast-growing demand for commercial vehicles in China, Hyundai Motor established a joint venture Sichuan Hyundai in August 2012 together with China’s commercial vehicle company Sichuan Nanjun Automobile Group and embarked on the construction of the new factory.

Sichuan Hyundai, by retrofitting Sichuan Nanjun’s factory into a capacity to produce 10,000 buses a year, will have a total production capacity of 160,000 commercial vehicles including 150,000 trucks and the 10,000 buses.
