Solongus - A Rage for Power

Like in ancient and medieval times, the world powers do know they are to fight each other early or late. Also, they do know why they have to fight. That is a rage to live. The very fact is a casus belli.

Right, the Peloponnesian War broke out between Sparta and Athens at the time of 431 B.C. They fought each other for twenty-eight years to the end of unconditional surrender. A political realist as well as Greek general, Thucydides, reviewed it deeply. Then he found it out why they fought desperately that:

“In the transition of power the incumbent power and a newly emerging power are to catch initiatives. So they come to hit each other. It is the war.”

Now the entire world is pregnant with pithy contests, unrestrained competitions, struggles, or even physical warfare whatever. If jarring and skirmishes provoke actuality the world powers might easily blindside and quickly sweep down the other sides. Unlike a traditional warfare, things have changed. And the overture for the total war has already appeared. With a bugle call, the powers are to blitzkrieg against other powers.

Now, the contest of power is faceless, scentless, soundless, limitless and boundless in this competing world stage. More significant, tensions among the powers are escalating intensely over time to overturn the existing main stream. And it is the characteristic landscape of the power struggle. Therefore, the struggle is truly an act of War even if there is no warning or ultimatum.

Right, it is a deadly tiring and monstrous war and a Big War. About this on-going struggle, the world powers, as if they were mavens, tittle-tattle that:

“This struggle, whether it is acted deliberately or unconsciously, is directly or indirectly connected to the personal success and glory. And the success and glory satisfies a rage to live. Then, the rage to live will lead to the desired power. And then, the power will make me safe together with the success and the glory. For such reasons, I have gulped down tears, angers, intolerable humiliations, self-risks, and everything.”

All of it is their candid thinking. In this context, the modern Chinese Big Brother, Mao Zedong put it well directly:

“Power grows out of a barrel of a belly gun.”

Condoleezza Rice, the former Secretary of State of the United States, too, said about the power with freeness:

“Power is nothing unless they can turn it into influence.”

Before this sort of unfeigned, frank commitments on power, John J. Mearsheimer had already watched the international politics for many years as if he had been a watchdog for power struggles among the worldwide powers.

Then he had analyzed it in depth in his book, The Tragedy of Great Power Politics as below:

“In this world, there is no such thing as a status quo power. Initially, a great power has a marked power advantage and incentives. So he is inclined to get hegemony over rivals. Then he is to eliminate any possibility of a challenge by another great power. For the reason, he behaves it over his rival candidates aggressively even at the price of war. In this process, the war takes place. And, the war is waged pitilessly.”

In this way he explained why it happened. Then he concluded that:

“Of course, the great power knows of the bitter reality of the war well. But he wages the war because it is the best way to ensure the national security.”

All of it was his frank and straight-forward comment on the war and power struggle. Like his realistic comments, the world powers fully understand all of it and think that:

“Power is Imperium. It springs from belly guns. So it is a dangerous thing. It poisons even the purest of minds. Nonetheless, it’s justice. Justice can be justified by the supreme power. Reversely, power only can guarantee my survivalin the name of justice. Also it gives me comfort and the glory.”

Correct, they know of it all deeply. By all accounts, they, as worldly-wide entrepreneurs, have been instinctively or indirectly tutored that:

“Since the beginning of time, there were primitive jobs in the earthly world such as spying, prostitution and politics. Those are connected with each other. Spying is from the hunger for power between man and man. Prostitution is from the love between man and woman. Even the God’s Book mentioned the two jobs with specific examples. The third one is politics. It is waged to get power over the other side. Interestingly, the three jobs have a common ground. It is survival.”

For the reason, the big men came to know of the reality of power that:

“Power is supreme as the rings of the Lord.”

And they regard it as Imperial Jade such as Darya-ye Noor, Elysium, or eternal Lost Treasures in the Garden of Eden. (Below is the Persian Imperial Jade, Darya-ye Noor, meaning ‘Sea of Light.’ It is one of the largest diamonds in the world. It weighs 36g (182 carats). Source: Wikipedia)

Like the Persian Jade, the first Emperor of China, Chin Shihuang varnished Jade named He Shi Bi. With it, he created his own royal seal and he recorded some words in it as below:

“The absolute power came from the God in heaven. So it will be prosperous forever and ever. (受命於天 旣壽永昌)”

Then the First Chinese Emperor proclaimed that:

“My absolute sovereignty is divine.”

In this way, he justified himself as Son of God as if he had been a supposed servant of God with supernatural ability. Then he earnestly hoped to rule over the entire Chinese world forever peacefully.

Later, the world powers learned the fine historical examples in China and Persia. Then they came to take a keen interest in partisan politics with other rivals.

Meanwhile, they have studied primers indispensible for the throne - ‘A grammar of Politics’and ‘Who gets what, when, and how.’  Thus, from an early date they have devoted their remarkable gifts to martial arts. And they have practiced all of it throughout their lives.

Power & popularity

Since the beginning of time, the population has incredibly increased. At this, the current world powers came to deeply realize that:

“Nowadays, the radical rise in population has changed the world drastically into a more sophisticated and unpredictable one. It is not easy to rule over the world with the power only. Presumably, another weapon will be needed. The one will be ‘popularity’ based on the huge population. Then it will give me a fine image like the Imperial Jade.”

Then they began to make a deep study on the relationship between power, population and popularity. After that, they thought inside that:

“If so I have to get popularity from the people’s front. After that, I’ll be popular with the people as close as possible. Then I’ll be able to wrap myself with popularity. Then, I can wield the power in the name of the Justice. Of course, the power will be justified as the absolute Justice. Thereafter, I can easily bear the rule over the world as if I am an incarnation of justice. Also, the power and justice will ensure my fate and security for good.”

Since then on, they have sought for popularity. Now they are determined to get it in their hands for the justice. And then they are to govern the world with the power. For the reason, they have already built up spectacular obelisks the world over like the Egyptian ones in ancient times. Then they have shown them to the current common people to aim at popularity.

Today, the blue satellite is in full bloom with the obelisks as if the globe were a colorful flowerbed with dazzling flowers. Of course, it is true that the very world powers have cultivated the flowerbed painstakingly from long ago as if they were selfless, faithful gardeners. However, the flowers are not materialized obelisks but invisible ones. In other words, those are no other than slogans or catchphrases whatever. Here, various intriguing slogans are seen here and there.
