Volkswagen passed the 100,000 mark in cumulative sales in Korea, in nine years after it established its business unit here.Volkswagen Korea announced on June 11 that it has achieved the 100,000 level in cumulative sales in the shortest time among the nation’s major import car business units.
The Jetta 1.6 TDI Blue Motion which was sold at Volkswagen Korea’s Shinsa Showroom in Seoul on June 10 became the 100,000th sales model. Volkswagen Korea’s car sales have grown 62.2 percent per year.
Volkswagen played a key role in Korea’s three major import car trends—“compact car,” “diesel” and “popularization.”Thus far, Volkswagen has released a variety of best-selling import car models ranging from small hatchback to SUVs, including Golf, Jetta, Passat, and Tiguan.
The sales of diesel models shot up to 23,853 units last year from 124 units in 2005. Volkswagen also has become the most preferred brand for those in their 20s to 40s.
