Samsung Electronics Opens Real-time Sports UHD Broadcasting Era

SEOUL, KOREA - The ultra HD broadcasting era has opened up together with the opening of the Brazil World Cup. UHD TV offers four times clearer image quality than full HD TV. Samsung Electronics announced on June 16 that it has succeeded in UHD sports live streaming broadcasting using the over-the-top (OTT) technology at the end of last month, first in the world.

 

Together with Portugal Telecom and Radio and Television of Portugal (RTP), Portugal’s public service broadcasting, Samsung Electronics broadcast the warm-up match between Portugal and Greece held in Lisbon, on a real-time UHD streaming basis. PT and RTP have selected Samsung Electronics as their exclusive partner for UHD broadcasting.

Even in France on June 3 and 4 when there was a huge sports event, Europe’s first real-time terrestrial UHD broadcasting was offered. France Television used the Eiffel Tower to broadcast the quarter final of the French Open Tennis to the 10 million viewers in Paris. 

Together with other TVs, Samsung Electronics’ curved TV was used to check the quality of the broadcasting and garnered good acclaims as it was the only TV to reproduce the signal perfectly without separate settings.
