SEOUL, KOREA - Nissan’s high-end brand Infiniti, whose sales have remained sluggish, being subdued by the popularity of German brands, is showing signs of recovery, setting a new monthly sales record last month.

According to Nissan Korea on July 7, Infiniti was sold 416 units last month, the highest monthly record since the brand was introduced first in Korea in 2005.Infiniti’s first-half sales here in Korea stood at 1,359 units, up sharply from 433 units a year ago.

The main driver behind the hike in sales of Infiniti is the popularity of its diesel sedan Q50 which was released first in February 2014.

The Q50, which is a rival to BMW 3 Series and Benz C Class, was sold 391 units last month, the highest sales record among Infiniti’s single models.

In June 2014, Q50 was ranked No. 9 among import cars in terms of sales, with its cumulative sales estimated at 1,105 units. This is higher than Nissan’s monthly sales target set at 200 units.

Nissan Korea aims to sell 3,000 units of Infiniti models, by the end of this year, on the back of the popularity of the Q50, much higher than last year’s 1,116 units.
