SEOUL, KOREA - Seoul National University Hospital will take the job of managing a hospital in the United Arab Emirates. The university hospital, jointly with the Ministry of Health & Welfare, said on July 10 that it was selected as the consignment manager for Sheikh Khalifa Specialist Hospital in Ras al-Khaimah, the UAE, overtaking competing bidders from Germany, the United States, and Britain.
Under the terms of the contract, SNU Hospital will be responsible for the royal hospital's management and consulting for the next five years from August this year. The fees for the consignment deal are estimated at 200 billion won a year. This is the largest scale management and consulting project ever won by Korean hospitals. In addition, the university hospital will earn additional incomes of about 8 billion won from profit-sharing arrangements and doctor training programs.

Seoul National University Hospital will send a total of 290 doctors, nurses, and administrative employees to the United Arab Emirates to staff 15 to 20 percent of the UAE hospital's head count. It is possible that the deal may lead to a few more royal hospital management jobs.

Sheikh Khalifa Specialist Hospital has 248 beds and is specialized in cancer, cardiology, children, neurological diseases, emergency, and rehabilitation medicine. The hospital plans to increase the size to 400 beds to become the largest hospital in the country.
