Curved TV Demand on Steep Rise in the U.S. and Europe

Clik here to view. SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics decided to ramp up the production of curved TVs. Six out of ten people who purchased UHD TVs turned out to have selected curved models not only in Korea but in Europe and the United States.

Samsung Electronics said on July 16, “Thanks to the hike in demand for curved UHD TVs worldwide, we will increase the production of curved models by about 40 percent from the third quarter compared to a quarter ago.”

According to market research firm the GfK Group, the share of curved products in Europe’s UHD TV market reached 60 percent in the period from March to May 2014. The share stood at 65 percent in Germany, 59 percent in the UK, and 54 percent in France.Even in Korea, 61 percent of those who purchased UHD TVs selected curved models.

ASamsung official said, “Since we released curved TVs in the global markets in March, our sales of curved TVs have sharply increased and this trend has continueduntil now.”
